Thanksgiving for London

I am constantly thankful that I have the opportunity to temporarily live in Zone 1 of London at this season in my life. Even while juggling my internship, law school, and my recently hectic travel schedule, I always try to make time one afternoon a week to discover something I don’t know about this awesome city. Virtually any brand I’ve wondered about is within walking distance, and the exhibitions that I see advertised at home open here. In a bit of shameless self-promotion on the city’s part, I often see the Samuel Johnson quote “when a [wo]man is tired of London, [s]he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.” If you excuse my tweaking, I would have to say that Mr. Johnson unequivocally encompassed my emotions on the subject. Therefore, when my trip to Paris was unexpectedly canceled, it was no great loss to spend a languorous Sunday roaming, Mrs. Dalloway-style, around Covent Garden.

As an aside, this is my Cara Delevingne impression.

So morning coffee at Somerset House (where there is now an ice skating rink I need to try), Ben’s Cookies and window shopping at Covent Garden Market, lunch at the Delauney Counter, and general tour-estrial bliss on Waterloo Bridge — altogether a halcyon day.

“Halcyon Days”
by Walt Whitman

Not from successful love alone,
Nor wealth, nor honor’d middle age, nor victories of politics or war;
But as life wanes, and all the turbulent passions calm,
As gorgeous, vapory, silent hues cover the evening sky,
As softness, fulness, rest, suffuse the frame, like freshier, balmier air,
As the days take on a mellower light, and the apple at last hangs
really finish’d and indolent-ripe on the tree,
Then for the teeming quietest, happiest days of all!
The brooding and blissful halcyon days!

At this rate, it should be called the Easter Cat.

Out of sheer desperation Jack has taken to pictures with chocolate bunnies. Neither of us can find anything remotely bunny printed to wear this Easter (or anytime, given my aforementioned affinity).

You can find any article, gadzook, or totem with a cat plastered across its lackluster front, but a bunny? THE EASTER BUNNY? Negative.

As we witness a virtual print resurrection this Spring (and just when you thought things were going digital), amongst the playsuits, sundresses, and pencil skirts, there is not a rabbit pattern to be seen.  I’ve virtually scoured the internet only to find this Australian solution, which- wouldn’t you know- only ships to Australia.

All I want is a nice pair of pastel green tights with little white bunnies, or maybe a flouncy skirt to frolic across a meadow. A little pastoral number perfect for comfy coves and afternoon tea? You know, the kind of thing you wear under an apron?

But everytime I try to search, I am greeted with rabbit fur instead. *heart drops* Help a girl out! If you see anything at all bunny, give me a shout! And in the meantime, please have a very…

Spring! Or the Top Five Reasons My Bunny is Better Than Your Pet

Meet Kierkegaard, my Holland lop given to the most irrational leaps of faith. She is grey, the color of ambiguity (like any good philosopher rabbit). When we accidentally left her cage open, in true philosopher fashion, she stood in the door contemplating the allegory of the cage, while Thumper flew the coop. But besides her overwhelming loyalty and good looks, there are several reasons why Kierkegaard is, quite simply, the best pet ever.

1. She is so stylish — she can smell incoming trends.

2. She’s very knowledgeable, probably due to her love for reading.

She has a crush on the white rabbit.

What a hunk! Who needs punctuality?

She lervs literature.

3. She works hard, plays hard.

4. She knows all the “coolest” places to hang out.

Specifically under awnings, on rocks, and in the shade…

Did I mention my shoulder?

and wherever she wants…

5. She doesn’t complain when she has to take baths.

Could your cat do that?

Bathed and ready to explore!

She. is. adorable. Try to prove me wrong. Ol’ Fido or Mittens ain’t gotten nothing on Captain Kierk.

Happy Spring everyone!
