The subtitle of this blog is “Style for people blowing in the wind.” If you’ve been following me long,you might have noticed that I tend towards a sort of ragamuffin eccentric glam gleaned from thrift stores, ebay, and a wide array of antique hats (not to mention the fact I can’t get over women’s robes…).
Part Chaplin. Part Eastwood. Part-icularly Brilliant.
While I try to steer away from fictional characters for inspiration (and friends — it never works out), today’s post is an exception to celebrate a marvelous woman who is herself, an exception, not to mention the epitome of the kind of style I strive for. I present Penelope from The Brothers Bloom.
Penelope is an estranged heiress who lives alone in her own veritable New Jersey castle. Due to doctors’ faulty diagnoses and her mother’s extended illnesses, she has spent most of her childhood alone, acquiring a multitude of hobbies, including the harp, banjo, piano, break dancing, several languages, fire juggling, and pinhole photography to name a few.
Given her extended solitude, she has acquired a hearty appetite for adventure, intrigue, bowler hats, animal print, capes, and most importantly, to be a con artist, alongside the brothers Bloom. For an engaging critique of the film itself, check out feminema’s review.
